The Renewable Energy and Environment Conservation Laboratory (REEC Lab), Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, has achieved international recognition at the 37th International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2026) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The research team, comprising Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yuttana Mona, Asst. Prof. Dr. Chatchawan Chaichana, and Dr. Uma Shankar Veerasamy, received the prestigious ITEX 2026 Gold Medal for their innovative project entitled:
"Hybrid Energy Storage Device Based on Upcycled Biomass-Derived Carbon for Portable Power Applications."
In addition to the Gold Medal, the team was also honored with the NRCT Special Award, presented by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), in recognition of the invention's outstanding innovation, technological advancement, and potential societal impact.
The award-winning innovation focuses on the development of a sustainable hybrid energy storage device utilizing carbon materials derived from upcycled biomass waste. The technology aims to provide environmentally friendly and efficient portable energy solutions while promoting waste valorization and circular economy principles.
These achievements demonstrate REEC Lab's continued commitment to advancing cutting-edge research in energy storage technologies, sustainable materials, and clean energy systems, further highlighting the research excellence of Chiang Mai University and its growing impact on the global innovation community.
