Two master’s students from Feng Chia University’s Department of Green Energy and Technology, An-Jie Luan and Shih-Yun Chang, have joined the “Overseas Internship Program” sponsored by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education (MOE). Guided by Prof. Dr. Chen-Yeon Chu, director of the Green Products Institute, they will spend three months as exchange students in the Renewable Energy and Environmental Conservation (REEC) Lab at Chiang Mai University.

After consulting with Asst. Prof. Dr. Chatchawan Chaichana, the students will pursue distinct research topics. An-Jie Luan, who specializes in bamboo hydrolysis, will focus on sorghum—the world’s fifth-most important cereal crop after rice, wheat, maize, and barley. While the grain is used for human consumption, the plant serves as animal feed and a source for ethanol production. Luan will investigate efficient methods to hydrolyze these products. Shih-Yun Chang will concentrate on nanoplastics detection techniques. Driven by concerns over environmental plastic pollution, she aims to study microplastics removal and develop a straightforward method for analyzing micro/nanoplastics in water.

Throughout this exchange program, under the guidance of supervisors Asst. Prof. Dr. Chatchawan and Asst. Prof. Dr. Yuttana Mona, the students look forward to boost strong collaboration within the REEC Lab while enhancing the relationship between Taiwan and Thailand.
